USA National Championships 2015
During Jack Bissets' semester abroad he was able to keep up his training as well as compete over in the USA. This was a fantastic experience for him and also allowed him to compete in the USA Triathlon National Age Group Championships, qualifying for which was an achievement in its self. It also meant that our fabulous team has gone interantional. Massive well done to Jack for his performance over in the States, Heres a little bit from Jack about how he got on;
This year the USA Triathlon National Age Group Championships took place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 8th. I was able to compete in this event after qualifying earlier in the year whilst studying abroad in the US and because, by chance, I happened to be back in the country for that weekend. This was a great race venue with a lovely course. Even the weather was perfect on race day – warm with almost no wind!
The first wave of athletes set off at 7:30am but I wasn’t due to start until 10am. It was great to have a moment to take in the atmosphere at such a big event. However, once the gun went off and arms and legs were flying around, all thoughts were on racing. A strong swim kept me near the front of the swim pack and I exited the water in 18:36. The bike leg was only 1 loop – mostly flat but with 2 quite long climbs thrown in for good measure. I lost ground on the bike but had a good run and managed to bring it back a little in the third discipline, posting a 41:46 for the 10K. This gave me a finishing time of 2:12:57, a good pb and another great experience racing in the US!
